HOW TO CHECK MY TYRE SIZE?

Sidewall Markings:

On the sidewall of a tyre you will find various codes and markings. Amongst these you will find the size.

like the example in the above picture 205 55 R 16

Tyre width:

The first three digits ‘205’ indicates the width of the tyre in millimeters , so with this example the tyre is 205mm wide.

Aspect ratio:

The next digits that come after the tyre width indicate the profile height of the side wall expressed as a percentage of the tyre width. In this case 55 would mean 55% of 205mm.

Radial:

Radial tyres are marked with the letter ‘R’. Radial tyres are built with the cord plies positioned at a 90 degree angle to the course of travel to give the tyre added strength.

Wheel diameter:

The next two digits are the size in inches of the wheel rim that the tyre can be fitted to. This is the diameter of the tyre from bead to bead.  So in this case ‘16’ means the tyre is 16 inches and can be fitted to a 16 inch rim.
